SUPER CLEAN PLAYS HOCKEY WITH SNOOPY!

In its first year of competition, the Super Clean Team finished with a Silver Medal at Snoopy's Senior Annual World Hockey Tournament held in Santa Rosa, California on July 13 - 20, 2008.

Affectionately called the "Snoopy Tournament", the tournament's rich heritage begins with its origination as an event in the Senior Olympics in the 70's. When asked if he could host the tournament at his rink in Santa Rosa, Charles M. Schulz, the creator of the comic strip Peanuts, gladly took on the responsibility. Having grown up in Minnesota, hockey was in Mr. Schulz's blood and when he moved to Santa Rosa, he built the Redwood Empire Ice Arena, also known as "Snoopy's Home Ice". The rink is filled with characters from the Peanuts, from the zamboni to the Warm Puppy Café to the Charlie Brown and Snoopy statues outside of the rink. There is also an adjacent Charles M. Schulz museum filled with memorabilia.

Because of its Olympic past, entry into the tournament is quite difficult. Not only do teams have to fulfill the age requirements (the youngest division is 40 and Over!), but also the teams have to petition the organizers for a spot. And this year, Super Clean made its first appearance in the 40 and Over "Lucy" Division. After winning its first game on July 18th by an impressive score of 9-0, the team fell short in its second attempt, losing by one goal to a team called the Palookaville Patriots. (At the BBQ after the game, when asked where Palookaville is, the Patriots prevaricated and no one ever got a straight story!) The good thing about the tournament is all competitors are there for spirited competition and sharing friendly banter, food and beverages in the parking lot after the games. Finishing up with a commanding 14-3 victory against the Ice Oasis Polars on the morning of July 20th, the Super Clean Team received its Silver Medals before parting ways. Determined to win the Gold next year, the team will start serious strength and conditioning training.....soon.
