SUPER CLEAN KEEPS OLYMPIC ATHLETES HEALTHY AND SAFE

Keeping Olympic Athletes Healthy

OLYMPIC ATHLETES ARE SUPER CLEAN

Most people who went to Vancouver found themselves in beautiful Whistler watching Lindsey Vonn shush down the mountain in gold medal style, or witnessed Apolo Ohno make history as the most decorated Winter Olympic athlete of all time, or watched in awe as Shaun White dazzled in the half-pipe. But I saw...the inside of a room for much of the Olympic tournament. Super Clean was in Vancouver to perform a very important service for the male and female hockey players: super cleaning their hockey equipment in order to protect them from dangerous staph infections and illness.

Olypmic Athletes are Super Clean

Super Clean offered equipment cleaning services at both Olympic hockey venues - UBC Thunderbird Arena and Canada Hockey Place - as part of Equipment Services, sponsored by Easton Bell Sports. In order to do the job right, we invited the manufacturer of our ozone machine, Sports-O-Zone, to supply us with two machines in Vancouver. Many of the players, equipment managers, and officials who came into the Equipment Services Rooms were relieved to know that they could get their gear sanitized, thus protecting themselves against a staph infection during the most important tournament of their lives.

Sports Equipment Cleaning As you all know by now, Staph and MRSA (the most dangerous form of Staph infection) are a persistent problem in contact sports such as ice hockey, which leaves athletes particularly vulnerable to bacteria transmitted from equipment and uniforms. Sanitizing the protective gear using the Sports-O-Zone ozone machine kills over 99.9% of the pathogens living on the equipment without any toxic chemicals. An added bonus was that we were able to sanitize gear very quickly for the teams so that they could carry on with their busy practice and game schedules.

Who used the cleaning service the most? Super Clean cleaned gear from every country, but the Belarus men’s team and the Slovakian women’s team were regular customers of ours throughout the Olympics. I think they realized how important it was for their whole team to remain healthy and strong!

Keeping Olympic Athletes Healthy and SafeBeing in such a hockey-crazy town as Vancouver was interesting as well because all the VANOC volunteers were interested in the cleaning service. They wanted THEIR gear cleaned! We told them that if they could get their hockey gear through security, we would sanitize it for them!

Congratulations to all those who participated in the Vancouver Olympics this February. It really was an experience to remember for the athletes as well as Super Clean!
