H.I. Five Sports - Hygiene Initiative For Sports
Since its inception, Super Clean has felt that it is on a MISSION to educate the public about MRSA and to teach people how to take precautions to prevent these infections so that we can SAVE LIVES. In response to the tragic deaths of two school children and the publication of a report in the Journal of the American Medical Association in the fall of 2007 that shows that MRSA has increased to epidemic levels, Super Clean believes that it is necessary to implement a public awareness campaign about staph infections and MRSA in order to educate and lower the incidence of these infections in our country.

Many areas of the community are affected, but athletes are especially vulnerable to MRSA infections due to the fact that abrasions, cuts and contusions are more common in sports. Bacteria can get inside the body through these portals of entry. Even sweating facilitates penetration by the bacteria into the body. In addition, athletes wear equipment on which MRSA can survive. In response to this epidemic, Super Clean has instituted an awareness campaign called ‘H.I. Five Sports' (which stands for Hygiene Initiative For Sports) to implement at schools and sports associations across the country.
H.I. Five Sports is designed to
Early detection is a key weapon in fighting MRSA and it is important to obtain the correct medical assistance in order to save lives. As part of its campaign, H.I. Five Sports provides 5 Rules for athletes of all ages to follow in order to reduce the risk of contracting this deadly disease. By following the H.I. Five guidelines, we can lower the incidence of MRSA in this country and athletes can focus on what they do best: competing in their sport rather than competing against an illness.
| H.I. Five Rules: | |
| 1. | Wash your hands frequently. |
| 2. | Cover all open cuts, abrasions and wounds. |
| 3. | Do not share personal items. |
| 4. | Clean your equipment regularly. |
| 5. | Seek medical treatment immediately. |
In the face of the emerging threat of dangerous staph and MRSA infections, it is crucial that we understand the procedures for proper hygiene so that athletes may focus on playing and enjoying the game. By learning the important components of good sports hygiene, athletes will not have to be sidelined in a fight for their lives. That is why H.I. Five Sports is so important. Super Clean has presented H.I. Five Sports to the California Amateur Hockey Association and the Southern California Amateur Hockey Association, various Pop Warner football associations, as well as other organizations. To schedule a H.I. Five Sports presentation at your school, sports association, Board or parents' meeting, please contact Super Clean at 888.805.1080 or email us, Attention: H.I. To prevent transmission of MRSA, the U.S. Center for Disease Control advises that sports equipment should be cleaned on a regular basis. Super Clean's cleaning processes kill MRSA bacteria living inside and on the surface of sports and recreation equipment.
