"Clean" Keyboard To Help Prevent Infections
In London, researchers at a teaching hospital have developed a "clean" keyboard that is completely much smoother than exsisting ones, flat, and easy to clean. Hospital experts believe that by cleaning keyboards, they will be able to cut the number of cases of the killer MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus) bug "by up to 10 percent." Because hospital staff use computers more and more, and the often go from patient to keyboard with out washing their hands, the risk of spreading infections is increasing. Cleveland Browns Battling MRSA
When Cleveland Browns center LeCharles Bentley was hospitalized with a staph infection, general manager Phil Savage said his team had undergone "a staph infection outbreak." Although Bentley was just the fifth case of staph among the Browns in the past three years, Savage is justified in being concerned. Staph is bacteria that lives on the skin and can cause serious health problems as more and more strains become antibiotic resistant. Staph and MRSA - a particularly dangerous form of staph - can be spread by sharing contaminated objects and by skin-to-skin contact. In addition to the Browns, the Washington Redskins and the St. Louis Rams are other NFL teams who have battled staph and MRSA. Read more from pittsburghlive.com.
